This man's name is Willie Apiata and he was awarded Victoria Cross for bravery after the battle of Gate Pa.
He is famous because he was the first ever new zealander to receive the Victoria Cross because during battle he carried a wounded solider across the field to get him to safety.

Jerry Mateparae
